A London foodie has embarked on an ice cream crawl, sampling three of the capital's highest-rated gelato shops in a single day. Rachel, posting on TikTok, declared Bilmonte the clear winner for its quality and price.
The Ice Cream Crawl Route
Rachel began her quest at Gelupo in Soho, a spot she had been eager to try. She ordered two scoops of milk chocolate and burnt caramel for £6.50. The chocolate disappointed her, appearing pale and lacking richness, but the burnt caramel more than compensated. She described it as tasting like the topping of a crème brûlée crossed with honeycomb, calling it 'absolutely delicious'.
Next, she visited Bilmonte, a Sicilian gelato specialist, where two scoops cost £6.20. Rachel tried the dark chocolate sea salt gelato, which she called the 'richest chocolate gelato of her life', praising its intense flavour balanced by sea salt. She also sampled pistachio gelato, noting its creamy, stretchy texture and authentic pistachio flavour, served with a mini cone of melted chocolate on top.
Final Stop and Winner
Rachel's final stop was Big Kid Ice Cream, where two scoops cost £9. She sampled Marmite on toast but chose brown sugar vanilla and Ube blueberry muffin. The latter was her favourite flavour of the day, with a strong blueberry muffin taste. She enjoyed the brown sugar vanilla as an elevated version of vanilla. However, she criticised the price, saying £9 for two scoops was the most she had ever paid for ice cream.
Despite Big Kid having her favourite single flavour, Rachel concluded that Bilmonte was the overall winner. She stated: 'All in all – these were three very delicious ice creams and while Big Kid did have my favourite single flavour of the day, if I could only go back to one shop, it has to be Bilmonte, the quality for the price is just hard to beat.'
