A spectacular luxury retreat described as a 'magical woodland' has been listed for sale with a guide price of £2 million.
This unique eco-haven, nestled within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Holditch, Dorset, features three award-winning treehouses, each boasting luxurious amenities including hot tubs, slides, saunas, and pizza ovens.
A Decade of Dedicated Craftsmanship
The visionary behind this project is carpenter Guy Mallinson, who has spent the last ten years meticulously creating and expanding the retreat across a vast thirteen-acre site comprising nine acres of woodland and four acres of meadow.
Mr Mallinson, who previously worked on prestigious London projects like Walt Disney's headquarters, relocated his family from Fulham to Dorset to fulfil a dream of building a treehouse and raising his children in the countryside.
The flagship property, Woodman's Treehouse, was completed in 2016 at a cost of £150,000. This extraordinary structure, built into an ancient oak tree, took five months to construct with a team of 20 top craftsmen and Mallinson's own teenage sons.
It features a rooftop sauna, a hot tub, a revolving wood-burner, a tree shower, and even a slide down to the woodland floor alongside a two-person swing.
An Award-Winning Eco Business
The retreat currently operates as a highly successful holiday business, commanding rates of at least £495 per night or £1,485 for a weekend stay.
Its fame has been amplified by appearances on popular television shows such as the BBC's Mastercrafts, Channel 4's George Clark's Amazing Spaces, and Grand Designs: House of the Year, where Kevin McCloud famously labelled it a 'glamourous woodland funfair'.
The site's acclaim is further cemented by two Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards.
In 2020, the resort expanded with two additional treehouses. The Pinwheel Treehouse offers glass-topped rooms set in a serene bluebell wood, while the Dazzle Wheelhouse features a gangplank walkway with a yacht deck floor, its design inspired by a pattern used to camouflage naval ships in the First World War.
A Legacy Ready for a New Custodian
Explaining the decision to sell, Mr Mallinson highlighted the unique challenges of building in a woodland environment, stating they had a policy of 'treading very gently on the forest floor with no chemicals or concrete'.
They used screw piles instead of concrete foundations to minimise disruption to the soil and tree roots.
In a statement, he said, 'I am very proud of what we have created but feel it is time to pass it on to someone else who can take this business to the next level while I return to my workshop.'
A note on the property's website confirms the sale, presenting a 'rare opportunity' for a new owner. The sale includes not just the three existing, income-generating treehouses but also planning permission for five more, offering significant potential for expansion.
The listing suggests it would be ideal for a couple seeking a lifestyle business, a hospitality brand, a course provider, an investor, or even a family looking for a private escape.
