An historic homestead dating back to the 1600s is up for sale in Prescot. Nursery Farm, which was once owned by the Earl of Derby, comes with a vast acre of land, and a huge garden with workshops, barns, storage sheds and a hot tub room.
History and Heritage
According to the Merseyside Historic Environment Record, documented by Historic England, the suggested date for the building of the main block dates back to the 17th century. The front elevations has been largely rebuilt, probably during the 19th century.
The west wing is also believed to date back to the 19th century, or possibly slightly earlier. A 1783/5 plan of the Derby estate, which once encompassed the land where Nursery Farm is found, showed a house built on the site, with outbuildings, garden, orchard and fold, occupied by Mary Mercer.
Property Details
The Tithe map of 1847 recorded it as a homestead and garden owned by the Earl of Derby and occupied by John Jackson. The first edition ordnance survey map of 1893 marked the first time the residence was officially recorded as "Nursery Farm".
The property, on Knowsley Lane, Prescot, is currently used as a boarding kennels, with a dedicated kennel block and associated facilities.
