This significant investment will enable the company to increase its cottage cheese output by an impressive 50 percent while simultaneously creating 25 new local employment opportunities.
Robert Graham, managing director of the family-run business, revealed that they first noticed the emerging trend around May 2023. Since that initial observation, the company has been operating at maximum capacity to satisfy the escalating consumer appetite. "The demand has simply been staggering," Graham explained. "Our cottage cheese business has now surpassed our milk operations in scale, which is particularly noteworthy since our dairy farm was originally built around milk production."
Viral Content Drives Unprecedented Consumption
The transformation of cottage cheese from a nostalgic 1970s and 80s dietary staple to a contemporary food phenomenon can be directly attributed to viral content on social media platforms. On TikTok alone, videos featuring "cottage cheese breakfast rounds" have accumulated more than 15.1 million views, while content showcasing "cottage cheese edible cookie dough" has reached 8.7 million viewers.
This digital exposure has translated into remarkable sales figures across the retail sector. Supermarket giant Tesco reports that demand for cottage cheese has tripled over the past two years, with the company's cottage cheese buyer, Elizabeth Tomkins, confirming they are ordering as much product as possible to meet consumer needs.
"TikTok food trends often result in sudden sales spikes," Tomkins noted. "We witnessed similar patterns last year with Italian bread and cheese, but this represents a fully fledged culinary phenomenon that has generated substantial additional business for the entire UK dairy industry."
Quantifying the Surge in Production and Sales
The numerical evidence supporting this cottage cheese revival is compelling. Graham's Family Dairy has seen demand for their product double in recent years, equivalent to an additional two million kilograms sold. Meanwhile, industry publication The Grocer reported that monthly cottage cheese volumes in the UK increased dramatically from approximately 900,000 kilograms at the beginning of 2023 to more than 1.7 million kilograms by December 2025.
This resurgence has fundamentally altered traditional consumption patterns. While cottage cheese sales previously experienced predictable seasonal increases during summer months and in January due to post-Christmas dieting, the current demand represents a sustained, year-round phenomenon driven largely by younger consumers.
International Reach and Production Integrity
The cottage cheese trend has transcended national boundaries, with Graham's now exporting their products to distant markets including the Gulf States and Hong Kong. Despite this rapid expansion and increased production capacity, the company remains committed to maintaining traditional manufacturing methods.
"This investment enables us to meet escalating demand without compromising the qualities that make our product distinctive," Graham emphasized. "We continue to produce our cottage cheese using a traditional open-vat process, which creates a firmer curd and more natural texture compared to alternative manufacturing techniques."
The expansion will support increased output across Graham's complete cottage cheese range, including natural, low-fat, and high-protein varieties. Beyond meeting current demand, the investment allows the family business to explore future innovations within their product line while strengthening their local economic contribution through job creation.
