Government Compensation and Official Reactions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and announced ex gratia relief of 200,000 Indian rupees for the families of the deceased. In a message posted on social media platform X, he stated, "Pained by the loss of lives in the explosion at a factory in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh. I extend my condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon." Additionally, he confirmed that injured individuals would receive 50,000 rupees in financial assistance.

Separately, the state government of Andhra Pradesh has declared compensation of 20 lakh rupees, equivalent to approximately 24,000 US dollars, for each family that lost a member in the tragic blast. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited the injured at the hospital to review the situation and oversee relief efforts.

Investigation and Accountability Measures

In a statement on X, Chief Minister Naidu conveyed his deep distress, saying, "The explosion at a crackers manufacturing unit at Vetlapalem village in Kakinada district has really pained me. Multiple people losing their lives in this accident is sad." He emphasised that officials have been directed to ensure immediate aid and closely monitor rescue operations, with a commitment to supporting affected families.

Furthermore, the chief minister has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and announced the suspension of four officials over alleged lapses and negligence, as reported by the ANI news agency. He warned that strict action, including potential arrests and property seizures, would be taken against those found responsible for the explosion.
