Chery's New Lepas Brand Unveils L4 Compact EV for UK Market
Chery's Lepas Reveals L4 Compact EV for UK

Chinese automotive giant Chery has introduced its fourth brand to target the UK market, Lepas, which is set to unveil its third new model at the Auto China motor show in Beijing this week. The L4, a compact electric SUV designed for urban environments, will make its formal debut at the event. However, Lepas is using the occasion for more than just a single vehicle reveal; the brand will also present its broader new energy vehicle strategy as it accelerates international expansion, with Britain as a key focus.

Design and Positioning

The L4 is being positioned as a city-friendly crossover, emphasising agility, comfort, and everyday practicality. It enters one of the most competitive segments of the electric vehicle market, where it will face numerous rivals. Lepas aims to differentiate the model through personality and design, presenting it under the theme “Elegance Moves the World”. The company describes the L4 as combining sculpted bodywork, distinctive lighting, and a confident stance, reflecting its ‘Leopard Aesthetics’ design philosophy. This approach is intended to avoid the anonymity often associated with electric SUVs.

Interior and Technology

While full interior details are reserved for the unveiling, Lepas has indicated that the L4 will feature advanced in-car technology focused on convenience and connectivity. The brand’s vehicles are built around three pillars: Leopard Aesthetics, Elegant Technology, and Exquisite Space. These encompass design, electrified powertrains, intelligent cockpit systems, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The L4 is expected to showcase these elements, providing a clearer picture of Lepas’ brand identity.

Platform and Global Ambitions

Future Lepas EVs will be underpinned by the Chery Group’s global research and development capabilities and the LEX intelligent New Energy Platform. This platform is designed to support a wide range of models, from small cars to mid- and large-sized vehicles, as the company expands its global lineup. Gary Lan, CEO of Lepas UK, stated: “The debut of the Lepas L4 EV represents a significant moment for our brand as we take the next step in our global journey and begin to build real momentum in international markets, including the UK. This is not just the introduction of a new model, but a clear signal of our long-term ambition.”

UK Rollout Plan

Lepas has confirmed its initial UK rollout, planning to launch three SUVs over the next 12 months. The flagship L8 will arrive in the third quarter of this year, followed by the L6, and then the L4. Further details of the L4 are expected after its official unveiling at the Beijing show.

Chery Group Performance

Lepas is part of the wider Chery Group, which sold 2,806,393 vehicles in 2025, an increase of 7.8% year-on-year. New energy vehicle sales reached 903,847, up 54.9%, while exports climbed to 1,344,020, a rise of 17.4%, setting a new annual export record for a Chinese carmaker. By the end of December 2025, Chery’s global customer base exceeded 18.53 million, including more than 5.85 million overseas.
