Many motorists position their vehicle too far to the left while waiting to turn right, blocking traffic behind them. The correct technique, according to the insurer, is to position the car just left of the centre line, allowing other vehicles to pass on the left.
Viewers of the TikTok clip shared their experiences, with some admitting they had failed driving tests due to this error. One commenter noted that they now stay in the middle to avoid collisions after someone hit their wing mirror while passing on the inside.
The Highway Code advises drivers to take up a position just left of the middle of the road when turning right, leaving room for other vehicles to pass on the left if possible. It also emphasises checking mirrors and blind spots before making the turn.
