Deal of the week and Pension Credit reminder
Supermarkets Asda and Morrisons are selling a 1-litre bottle of Baileys Irish Cream liqueur for £13, with Tesco Clubcard and Sainsbury's Nectar Card shoppers able to get the same size bottle for the same price.
The Government has launched a new drive to boost take-up of Pension Credit this month. It's estimated that 660,000 state pensioners are missing out on the benefit, which is worth £4,500 per year on average. The benefit tops up state pension to a reasonable standard and unlocks wider support like free TV licences and council tax discounts. To claim, applicants must live in England, Scotland, or Wales and have reached state pension age. Couples living together must apply jointly, with both typically at state pension age unless one receives pension-age housing benefit. The benefit tops up weekly income to a minimum of £238 for single claimants or £363.25 for couples. Benefits such as Attendance Allowance or Adult Disability Payment don't affect claims, and savings up to £10,000 don't affect eligibility. Use the Government's calculator at www.gov.uk/pension-credit-calculator to check eligibility.
