Soly, a prominent solar panel installer in the UK, has entered bankruptcy proceedings after its management filed for insolvency in the Netherlands. The company, which had been highly rated by The Independent for its competitive pricing and strong warranties, now faces an uncertain future.
In November 2025, the founders of Soly announced that the current management had filed for the bankruptcy of Soly Holding B.V. and related entities with the District Court in Groningen. The court confirmed the bankruptcy shortly afterwards. The founders expressed deep disappointment, noting that employees, partners, and customers now face uncertainty while a court-appointed trustee oversees the process.
Soly was founded in the Netherlands in 2013 by brothers Patrick and Milan van der Meulen and expanded to the UK in September 2023. It has installed over 35,000 solar systems across Europe, South Africa, and elsewhere. The company offered Aiko Neostar 460-watt panels and a 10-year workmanship guarantee, significantly longer than the industry standard. It was MCS-certified and a Which? Trusted Trader.
Despite its strong reputation, the bankruptcy filing has cast doubt on its operations. The founders, who were no longer active in day-to-day management, said they had explored alternatives to avoid insolvency but that management and other shareholders made a different decision. They remain open to a partial restart if possible.
For UK homeowners considering solar panels, the situation suggests caution. While Soly has been a compelling option for those prioritising long guarantees and an established European brand, its current status means waiting for clarity or seeking quotes from other installers is advisable.
