Net zero minister Miatta Fahnbulleh has given the green light to the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea, with gas potentially warming British homes as early as next month and providing thousands of jobs.
Minister Approves North Sea Gas Field
Fahnbulleh, who previously advised Ed Miliband for two years and whose think-tank penned the British Green New Deal, has now backed the development, marking a shift from her earlier support for a hyper-aggressive green agenda.
The Jackdaw field had been blocked for two years by Keir Starmer, climate protesters, and a court, according to the opinion piece. The neighbouring Rosebank oil field is next up for consideration.
Political Reactions and Criticism
Conservative chairman Kevin Hollinrake pointed out that Fahnbulleh's socialism is of the "Champagne variety" and that the privilege she affords her kids should be closed off to others. The piece also notes that Fahnbulleh sends her three children to private school, with tuition at her Tunbridge Wells school costing at least £278,070.
Nigel Farage and Ms Badenoch have long been outspoken supporters of developing both Jackdaw and Rosebank.
Energy Security and Renewables
The article argues that producing domestic oil and gas is vital for energy security and prices, and is not incompatible with a longer-term shift to renewables. It concludes that Left-wing certainties from think tanks and party conferences rarely survive contact with reality.
