British Gas has announced a reduction in energy prices, with customers set to save around £117 per year on average. The change, effective from April 1, applies to all tariffs, including fixed-rate plans, and will be reflected in the unit rate for energy.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, British Gas confirmed that the reduced rates are valid until the end of June. The company stated: 'We have lowered prices automatically, so there's nothing you need to do.' The move follows government action to remove green levies from energy bills, a policy expected to remain in place until 2029.
British Gas also advised customers on fixed tariffs that price movements will not affect them until their fixed period ends. For those on the tracker tariff, prices will remain below the price cap. Customers can check their new rates by logging into their online account or reviewing their next bill.
The company urged anyone struggling with energy costs to get in touch, as various support options are available. The government has promised to reduce energy bills by £150 through the removal of green levies.
