Newcastle United's Pre-Season Return: 18-Man Squad Expected Amid Rebuild
Newcastle United's Pre-Season: 18-Man Squad Expected

Newcastle United's players will return to pre-season training at the newly named KNOX hydration centre on Monday morning as Eddie Howe begins his side's preparations ahead of the 2026/27 season. The Magpies squad will report to Benton on Monday morning and go through all of the standard testing at the start of the summer ahead of a season of change on Tyneside.

Eight Departures and Three New Signings

Eight players from last season's squad have left the club since their 2-0 defeat to Fulham in their final game of the 2025/26 Premier League season back in May. Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali joined Barcelona and Tottenham respectively in big-money deals. Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth, Matt Targett, John Ruddy and Max Thompson all left the club on free transfers, while Aaron Ramsdale returned to Southampton at the end of his loan spell.

Three new signings have already arrived this summer. Goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen joined the club from Stade Reims last month, while winger Bazoumana Toure and midfielder Sean Steur have joined the club in July. Jaouen and Steur will be among the players present on the first day of pre-season, but Toure will be given extended time off due to his participation in the World Cup with Ivory Coast.

Key Players Absent and Injury Updates

Several key players will be absent from the opening training session. Nick Woltemade, Malick Thiaw, Yoane Wissa, Anthony Elanga and Bruno Guimaraes are all given extra time off due to international commitments. Dan Burn will be the last player to return due to his continued involvement with England in the World Cup. Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley are not expected to take part as they continue their recovery from injury.

Pre-Season Fixtures and Training Camp

Newcastle begin their pre-season fixtures with a behind-closed-doors match against Darlington next weekend, followed by trips to Gateshead and Bristol City. Howe's side will then fly to Spain for a week-long training camp in La Manga, culminating in a friendly against Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium. The squad will then travel to Edinburgh to face Everton at Murrayfield before returning to St James' Park for a double header against Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg.

Expected 18-Man Squad for First Day of Pre-Season

The expected squad for the first day includes goalkeepers Nick Pope, Ewen Jaouen, Mark Gillespie, and Aidan Harris; defenders Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall, Alex Murphy, and Leo Shahar; midfielders Joelinton, Sean Steur, Jacob Ramsey, Joe Willock, and Joe White; and forwards Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, Will Osula, and Sean Neave.
