Morrisons customer assistants received a pay rise to £13.00 an hour on Monday, July 20, 2026, as the second phase of a three-stage pay deal took effect.
The supermarket chain announced the proposal in May after it was approved by the USDAW union, which negotiates pay for large sections of Morrisons' workforce. The first phase lifted hourly rates for all customer assistants to £12.81, backdated to March 30, and gave other eligible hourly-paid roles a 10p uplift.
Three phases of pay rises
In the second phase, customer assistants moved from £12.81 to £13.00, while all other established hourly rates for eligible roles rose by 19p. The final rise is due on Monday, October 26, 2026, when customer assistants will see their rate increase from £13.00 to £13.11, with other roles receiving an 11p increase.
Morrisons also said all eligible hourly-paid colleagues would receive a one-off fixed payment of between £25 and £175, based on their contractual hours.

Rival supermarkets also increase pay
The pay rise came as rival supermarket chains also increased workers' pay this year to retain and attract staff, with cost-of-living pressures continuing to hit British households.
Sainsbury's brought in an above-inflation pay increase of 5% for hourly paid workers in March, taking hourly pay to £13.23 nationally and £14.54 in London. Lidl increased hourly pay for store assistants outside London to £13.45 from March 1, rising to £14.00 depending on length of service; in London, entry-level store workers received £14.80 an hour, with experienced staff able to earn up to £15.35.
The following month, Aldi store assistants saw their pay rise to £13.50 per hour nationally, with those inside the M25 receiving £14.88. These rates rise to £14.47 and £15.20, respectively, based on length of service.
