Major Fire Erupts in Birmingham High-Rise
Residents were forced to evacuate a tower block in Birmingham in the early hours of Monday morning after a significant fire broke out on an upper floor. Emergency services descended on Coniston Crescent in the Hamstead area following the alarm being raised.

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed they were called to the incident at 6.22am on Monday, 12 January 2026. The blaze, which is believed to have started on the ninth floor of the residential building, triggered a substantial response.
Firefighters described it as a "seven pump" incident, meaning seven fire engines and their crews were deployed to tackle the flames. One hose reel jet was utilised to combat the fire at the scene.
Ongoing Situation and Evacuation
Alongside the fire service, police and ambulance crews also attended the address to assist with the operation and ensure public safety. The swift action led to the evacuation of residents from the tower block as a precautionary measure.
At this stage, it remains unknown if there have been any injuries as a result of the fire. The cause of the blaze is also currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.
