A shopper who typically shops at Sainsbury's and Asda has discovered that Lidl offers a considerably superior selection of steak, with greater variety and more competitive pricing. The revelation came during a quick visit to Lidl for a last-minute evening meal, where the meat section was substantially larger than at the other two supermarkets.
Impressive Range and Quality
Lidl stocks an extensive selection of beef cuts, including frying steaks, rump, sirloin, ribeye, and Aberdeen Angus. The quality, once cooked, is described as succulent, juicy, and tender, avoiding the overly chewy texture often associated with steak. The range starts at around £3.70 and goes up to £12.99.
A pack of two sirloin steaks priced at £11.95 is considered relatively steep for Lidl, but the thick, juicy result justifies the cost. The two-pack format also offers better value compared to competitors: Sainsbury's sells 21-day-matured sirloin steaks individually for £6, or £7.75 for the Taste the Difference range, with a thick-cut sirloin at £11.25. Asda stocks an individual sirloin for £5.43, a Marble & Cleaver sirloin for £6.28, and an Exceptional by Asda Aberdeen Angus sirloin at £7.98 each.
Variety for All Budgets
Lidl's meat section caters to various budgets, making it suitable for summer barbecues, romantic dinners, or midweek meals. A Lidl spokesperson commented: "Whether it's a juicy fillet steak, a Sunday roasting joint or mince for burgers, our succulent Deluxe, Birchwood British and Strathvale Scottish beef ranges have all you need."
Having sampled steak from all three supermarkets, the shopper now considers Lidl the go-to choice for a dependable, flavoursome steak, citing both quality and value as decisive factors.
