A man given months to live has been awarded a $772,000 Lotto prize. The man, who had recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness, was one of eight winners nationally in the Lotterywest draw on Saturday, receiving $772,000 out of the $6 million prize pool.
Emotional Reaction
'I can go out with a smile on my face,' he said. 'I was well prepared with no debt and decent super, but now I know that my family will be set up really well after this win.' He nearly missed buying a ticket for the draw, with five minutes to spare before the lotto outlet closed. 'I saw it was 5.55pm and I thought, "I'd better hurry up and get my lotto tickets",' he said.
Special Meaning
He and his wife were left even more speechless after noticing the winning numbers appeared on line 16, a detail filled with special meaning for the couple. 'We were married on the 16th, and we won 10 years and one week after we were married,' his wife said. 'We've been building lots of memories, but it will be hard to top this one, and now I can finally say I'm married to a millionaire.'
Plans for the Money
They will spend the money on business class plane tickets so they can visit family on the east coast. 'I am glad I'll be able to help out some of those family members who have been doing it really tough,' he said.
