Dom Sibley's first century of the season guided Surrey to a first-innings lead over Essex at the Oval. Sibley spent nearly 20 minutes on 99 before reaching three figures, though he was dismissed shortly after by a superb delivery from Sam Cook. Dan Lawrence contributed an entertaining 125 as Surrey finished with a lead of 63. Essex safely negotiated the final nine overs of the day. Surrey had offered free entry to marathon runners, but none were seen celebrating.

Worcestershire dominate Kent

Worcestershire completed an emphatic innings-and-two-run victory over Kent at New Road. Kent needed 231 to avoid an innings defeat but slumped to 38 for three, with Tom Taylor taking 5 for 56. Zak Crawley battled for 31 before being dismissed driving. Chris Benjamin (77) and Keith Dudgeon (41) could not prevent the follow-on. Kent are yet to earn a batting bonus point and lost Ben Compton to a dislocated finger.

Root falls short of century on return

Joe Root looked in fine touch on his first appearance of the season for Yorkshire at Headingley, but was out for 96 after nibbling at a delivery from Henry Crocombe. Sam Whiteman scored his maiden century for Yorkshire, helping the side to a narrow lead of nine. Sussex lost two wickets in the evening session.

Nottinghamshire follow-on despite Duckett and Hameed

Haseeb Hameed (115) and Ben Duckett (93) batted well but Nottinghamshire were forced to follow-on against Warwickshire. Duckett's 93 was his second half-century of the match.

Durham fight back after Potts wreaks havoc

Matthew Potts tore through Lancashire's top order, leaving them 72 for six. However, former Durham players Michael Jones (72) and Paul Coughlin (100) staged a recovery. Durham need 336 to win.
