Paris Saint-Germain could gain a crucial edge in the Champions League semi-final thanks to a partnership with health and fitness wearable brand WHOOP, endorsed by global football star Cristiano Ronaldo. The French club has announced a collaboration with WHOOP, which will provide cutting-edge performance science to both the men's and women's squads.
Partnership Details
The deal, running until 2029, places PSG at the forefront of sporting innovation. Players and staff will use WHOOP's screen-free wearable device to make data-driven decisions on health and wellbeing. The gadget tracks metrics such as heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep, strain, and stress, offering personalised recommendations to optimise training and recovery.
WHOOP competes with brands like Google Fitbit and Samsung Galaxy, but its focus on in-depth physiological insights has attracted elite athletes. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, Masters champion Rory McIlroy, and Cristiano Ronaldo are among its users. Ronaldo stated on WHOOP's website that he uses the device "every single day" and called it "a good tool to help your health."
Performance Benefits
According to WHOOP's research, daily users gain over 90 additional minutes of exercise per week, more than two extra hours of sleep, and a 10% higher heart rate variability. The device also covers blood pressure and Advanced Labs blood biomarker analysis.
The partnership arrives as PSG prepares for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich. The first leg at Parc des Princes on Tuesday saw a record-breaking nine goals, with PSG leading 5-4 in a stunning display.
Free Trial Offer
WHOOP is offering a one-month free trial of the device and its Peak membership programme, allowing consumers to access the same technology used by elite athletes. However, the device lacks a screen and is not intended for texting or social media, unlike competing products such as the Apple Watch Series 11.
Brian Curtin, WHOOP's VP of Global Marketing, said: "Paris Saint-Germain is one of the most influential brands in the world. Partnering with PSG puts WHOOP at the center of that influence, reaching new audiences while aligning with a club that sets the standard for excellence."
User Reviews
WHOOP has received thousands of positive reviews on Trustpilot. One user commented: "I've been using WHOOP for the past three years and it has become an essential part of my daily life. It provides valuable statistical insights that help me maintain balance, from managing stress and exercise to understanding my sleep patterns."
Another reviewer noted: "I've used Whoop for years and, while a bit expensive, have appreciated the consistency and free device upgrades." However, some users reported frustration with AI chatbots in customer support.
The partnership aims to "redefine the standards of elite sport by placing athlete health at the center of performance decisions," according to PSG and WHOOP.
