Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has emerged as a primary target for Premier League rivals Aston Villa as he edges closer to leaving Anfield. The centre-back has just one year remaining on his contract, making an exit this summer increasingly likely.
Interest from Multiple Clubs
According to reports, Aston Villa are keen to sign Gomez as they prepare for their Champions League campaign. While no official approach has been made, Villa's management highly values his versatility and could move if the price is right. Other interested parties include Besiktas and AC Milan, though Milan's backroom overhaul may complicate a deal.
Gomez's Career at Liverpool
The 29-year-old joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in 2015 and has made 274 appearances for the club without scoring. Earlier this season, he cast doubt on his future, stating: "I think anything can happen. I don't know is the honest answer. I've only got a year left on my contract, so I don't know." He expressed gratitude for his time at Liverpool but acknowledged that his future is uncertain.
Departures and Arrivals at Liverpool
Should Gomez leave, he would join Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson in departing this summer. Salah and Robertson played their final games for Liverpool against Brentford. Robertson is reportedly heading to Tottenham Hotspur after agreeing terms earlier. Liverpool manager Arne Slot has hinted at significant arrivals, with RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande linked, though Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.
Gomez's exit would mark the end of an era for a player who has been a loyal servant to the club for over a decade.
