Royal Caribbean's newest Icon class cruise ship, Legend of the Seas, has taken a significant step toward welcoming its first guests as it embarks on sea trials. The vessel is now undergoing comprehensive technical testing in the open waters near Turku, Finland, before its scheduled launch in July 2026.
Technical Testing Underway
More than 2,000 engineers and specialists are currently putting Legend of the Seas through a rigorous series of evaluations. These tests include assessing the ship's maneuverability in open water and pushing its engine performance to maximum limits. The ship is expected to cover approximately 2,400 nautical miles during the trials before returning to the Meyer Turku shipyard for final construction touches.
Third Icon Class Ship
Legend of the Seas will be the third vessel in Royal Caribbean's Icon class, following Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas. At 250,800 gross tonnes, it matches its predecessors in size and can accommodate up to 5,610 guests. However, it will be the first Icon class ship to launch and sail from the Mediterranean, offering departures from Barcelona and Rome.
Onboard Highlights
Guests can expect many of the popular features from sister ships, including six giant waterslides, over 20 bars and lounges, the Royal Promenade with floor-to-ceiling ocean views, and the open-air Central Park. New exclusive attractions include the Broadway musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a Royal Railway-themed immersive dining experience that takes diners on a journey along the ancient Silk Routes, blending entertainment, food, and technology.
Entertainment and Dining
Performances from former America's Got Talent contestants will be featured, along with new AquaTheater and ice skating shows. Dining options have been expanded with Japanese street food, traditional American bites, Italian delicacies, and a new Hollywood-inspired specialty supper club concept.
Future Itineraries
After its inaugural European summer season, Legend of the Seas will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for Caribbean itineraries, including visits to the private island Perfect Day at CocoCay.
