Royal Caribbean's newest Icon class cruise ship, Legend of the Seas, has commenced sea trials in Turku, Finland, marking a significant step towards its maiden voyage in July 2026. Over 2,000 engineers and specialists are conducting comprehensive technical tests, including evaluating the ship's movement in open water and pushing engine performance to its limits.
The ship will cover approximately 2,400 nautical miles before returning to the Meyer Turku shipyard for final construction. At 250,800 gross tonnes and with capacity for 5,610 guests, Legend of the Seas is the same size as its sister ships, Icon and Star of the Seas.
Legend will be the first Icon class ship to launch and sail from the Mediterranean, with departures from Barcelona and Rome. It will feature popular Icon class amenities such as six giant waterslides, over 20 bars and lounges, the Royal Promenade with floor-to-ceiling ocean views, and the open-air Central Park.
Exclusive offerings include the Broadway musical 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', a Royal Railway-themed immersive dining experience along the ancient Silk Routes, and performances from former America's Got Talent contestants. New dining concepts include Japanese street food, traditional American bites, Italian delicacies, and a Hollywood-inspired specialty supper club.
After its inaugural European summer season, Legend of the Seas will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for Caribbean itineraries, including visits to the private island Perfect Day at CocoCay.
