Manchester United have agreed a contract extension with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, the Press Association understands. The 21-year-old academy graduate has made 98 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring seven goals, including a memorable strike in the 2024 FA Cup final victory over rivals Manchester City.
Turnaround in Fortunes
Just months ago, Mainoo's future at Old Trafford appeared uncertain. He had fallen out of favor under former head coach Ruben Amorim and saw a request to leave on loan rejected in August. A temporary January move seemed plausible until Michael Carrick's appointment as head coach. Carrick restored Mainoo to the starting lineup, and the midfielder has since played a pivotal role in the club's rise to third place in the Premier League.
New Deal Details
Talks over a new contract have progressed during this period, and PA understands terms have now been agreed on an improved deal reportedly running until 2031. Mainoo's previous contract was due to expire next summer. Confirmation of the agreement is expected shortly.
The midfielder's resurgence has also earned him an England recall. Having started in the Euro 2024 final, Mainoo is now pushing for a place in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.
