Frida Redknapp, wife of former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp, has disclosed that her husband was left 'very curious' as she devoted months to experimenting in the kitchen. She shared the insight while speaking to Gabby Logan on The Mid Point podcast about the inception of her new business venture, Frood, a cooking-blend product designed to help families prepare meals in minutes.
From kitchen experiments to business launch
Frida described her aim to create the 'ultimate kitchen hack', which led her to develop convenient versions of popular dishes such as spaghetti bolognese and Swedish meatballs. The process involved extensive trial and error, including eight to nine months of dehydrating ingredients. She purchased dehydrating machines from Amazon, starting with one and quickly adding two or three more to handle the volume.
'So I went on Amazon and I bought machines, dehydrating machines. And I started with one, then, after three days, I realised, "Well, I need to dehydrate a lot", cos the idea was just like rolling or going. So I bought another two or three. So I lined them up on the counter. My kids came down to the kitchen and asked, "Mom, what are you doing?" I said, "I have an idea",' Frida recounted on the podcast.
She added: 'Literally, I dried every single thing you can imagine for eight to nine months, 24/7: fruit, vegetables, pulses.' When asked about Jamie's reaction, she said: 'Yeah, he was very curious.'
Blended family dynamics
Jamie and Frida married in 2021, three years after his divorce from popstar Louise Redknapp. They form a blended family: Frida has three sons and one daughter from her previous marriage to Jonathan Lourie, Jamie has two sons, Charley and Beau, with Louise, and together they have a son named Raphael.
Speaking previously to Closer, Frida discussed the challenges of blending families. 'The biggest lesson is patience. When new people come into a family, everyone needs time to adjust,' she said. She highlighted Raphael as a unifying force: 'He's the glue that holds everyone together. All the siblings adore him and everyone wants to come home and spend time with him. He brings everyone into the same room without even realising it.' Family meals also played a role, bringing them 'closer'.
Frood as a 'sixth baby'
Frida described Frood as her 'sixth baby' in an interview with Women's Health. She explained that while she had been creating food content, she felt an 'urge' to do more. The idea was sparked by a conversation at a children's party: 'About two years ago, I was at a children's party, and a mum said to me, "Frida, I love your content, but please save me. I have three kids, I'm very overwhelmed, I work full-time, and I don't have time to cook." That conversation planted a seed.'
