Hyundai is recalling 54,337 of its 2024-2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles in the United States due to a fire risk linked to an overheating hybrid power control unit. The defect can cause the vehicle to fail to start or enter a reduced-power mode, potentially leading to localized thermal damage. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed.
Tesla Recalls Cybertrucks and Over 200,000 EVs
In a separate development, Tesla has announced two major recalls. The first involves 173 of its 2024-2026 Cybertrucks, where cracking in the rotor could cause the wheel stud to separate from the wheel hub, increasing the risk of a crash. Tesla will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts with more durable parts at no cost to owners.
The second Tesla recall covers over 200,000 Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 electric vehicles due to a software issue that can temporarily disable the rearview camera. The company will release an over-the-air software update to fix the problem.
Impact on Drivers
These recalls affect a significant number of vehicles in the US, and drivers are urged to check if their vehicles are included. Hyundai and Tesla will notify affected owners and provide free repairs. For Hyundai Elantra Hybrid owners, it is recommended to avoid parking indoors until the issue is resolved.
