Manchester United have called off their £35 million move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson after the Brazilian failed his medical, according to reports in Italy.
The Premier League club had agreed terms with the Serie A side in June but waited until after Brazil's World Cup campaign to conduct a full medical examination. Ederson, 27, had an initial check-up before being called up as a late replacement for injured right-back Wesley in Carlo Ancelotti's squad.
Following Brazil's elimination from the World Cup, United performed a second medical, after which they informed Atalanta they would not proceed with the transfer. Ederson made two substitute appearances for Brazil before they were knocked out by Norway last Sunday.
Meanwhile, United are close to completing a £50 million deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea. The Brazilian midfielder passed his medical on Thursday and has agreed a five-year contract. Chelsea will retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause for the 22-year-old, whom they signed for £18 million from Vasco da Gama three years ago.
