A British traveler journeyed across the globe to sample what many claim is the finest KFC in the world, only to find that the cost of his meal was enough to make anyone wince. The influencer, known to his millions of followers as 'EatingwithTod,' visited the KFC outlet in Montego Bay, Jamaica, which has been hailed as the highest-earning KFC restaurant globally.
The Quest for the Best KFC
Fast food giant KFC opened its first restaurant in 1952 in Kentucky, USA, and has since expanded to over 31,980 locations across 150 countries, with more than 1,000 in the UK and Ireland. While the menu remains largely consistent worldwide, a particular KFC in Jamaica has gained a reputation for serving exceptional chicken, often drawing long queues of eager customers.
Tod, the British content creator, decided to put the hype to the test. In a video posted to his social media channels, he stood outside the Montego Bay KFC and declared, 'Today, we are trying what people are saying is the best KFC in the whole entire world.' He noted that this branch was the top-earning KFC globally the previous year.
Early Morning Queue
Arriving just before opening at 9:55 am, Tod found a queue already forming at the door. He struck up a conversation with a local who was stocking up on KFC for his flight home, even packing his suitcase full of the fried chicken. After ordering, Tod and his group sat down to taste test a box of 21 chicken wings, featuring multiple layers of different flavors.
The first layer consisted of barbecue-flavored wings. 'The chicken is so moist and so tender. The barbecue sauce isn't just like an English barbecue sauce, you've got a lot of spice in them, just the chicken is so soft,' Tod remarked. He added, 'Bring the biscuit and bring the barbecue to the UK.'
The second layer was spicy wings, which Tod noted had a 'thicker' batter compared to UK KFC, resulting in a crispier texture. Finally, the original flavor wings showcased a different, smoother batter that Tod described as 'still absolutely fire.'
The Eye-Watering Bill
Although Tod did not disclose the exact items ordered, the total cost for the chicken wings meal came to a staggering £121, significantly more expensive than a comparable meal in the UK. Despite the high price, Tod admitted he had hoped the Jamaican KFC would be overhyped, but he was proven wrong. 'I wanted it to just be another KFC, but it's not,' he confessed.
Public Reaction
The video sparked a flurry of comments from viewers, many of whom agreed that Jamaican KFC is among the best in the world. One commenter wrote, 'Jamaican KFC is unmatched worldwide, which is why most of them have security guards.' Another said, 'Only the spicy one in Trinidad tastes okay, but it's still not better than Jamaica's. All the flavours taste so good in Jamaica — original, spicy, and BBQ. Plus only Jamaica has the BBQ flavour.' A third declared, 'Unbeatable! BEST IN THE WORLD.' Some even started a campaign to bring the Jamaican KFC menu to the UK.
