Northumbria Mysteries Filming Moves to Rothbury Cast Announced

Filming for the new BBC crime drama The Northumbria Mysteries moved to a new location on Tuesday afternoon, with the full star cast now confirmed. The production, which has been shooting across the North East, set up in Rothbury, Northumberland, a town recently featured in the zombie thriller 28 Years Later.

Cast and Characters

Robson Green, known for Soldier Soldier, Wire in the Blood, and Grantchester, stars as Joe Ridley, an ex-convict and gambler with ties to the criminal underworld. He teams up with Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell, played by Liz White, who previously appeared in Life on Mars and Ackley Bridge. The cast also includes acting greats Simon Callow, Kevin Whately, and Chris Gascoyne, best known for playing Peter Barlow on Coronation Street.

Filming Locations

Earlier filming took place in Morpeth and Seahouses, where Green was spotted at a seaside café. On Tuesday, cameras rolled in Rothbury, with actor Gurjeet Singh, also from Ackley Bridge, filming scenes. The series is the first BBC detective drama set in the North East since ITV's Vera ended in 2024.
