Parents are being urged to immediately stop using eight children's products sold by US-based toy maker TheKiddoSpace, following an urgent recall notice. The items, sold worldwide and online, pose risks including strangulation, poisoning, choking, and fire hazards.
The recalled items include a baby swing, finger-painting kits, talking flashcard toys, a felt play set with button batteries, puzzle egg toys, a felt book, and a hover soccer ball. The swing's fabric can form loops that may strangle a child. The finger paints contain hazardous substances like methanol and ethylene glycol, which can cause serious illness or death if ingested.
The flashcard toys have non-compliant USB cables containing restricted phthalates, posing reproductive toxicity risks, and batteries that can short-circuit, causing fires. The felt play set's button batteries present choking and internal burn hazards. The puzzle eggs and felt book contain small parts that can cause choking or suffocation.
Consumers are advised to destroy the items and contact TheKiddoSpace for a full refund. For the swing, cut the fabric in half and send a photo to the manufacturer. Separately, Crumb Australia has recalled all colours of its metallic cake decorating powder after a 14-month-old boy, Dustin Wildman, inhaled it and is in critical condition.
