An urgent safety recall has been issued for the 3M Peltor Comtac VIII Headset over concerns that it could damage users' hearing. The product is described as an over-the-ear hearing protection and communications headset designed for military and civil defence personnel and manufactured in Sweden.
Feedback noise up to 106 dBA
The recall follows fears that affected batches may emit feedback noise through the headset speakers, measured at up to 106 dBA, presenting a serious risk of hearing loss. The warning states that the likelihood of the issue occurring increases in cold ambient temperatures and when the battery is depleted.
The product does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on Personal Protective Equipment and the applicable standards EN 352-1:2020, EN 352-4:2020, and EN 352-6:2020.
Affected models and dates
The recall applies to headsets manufactured between 27 November 2025 and 6 February 2026. The affected model numbers are MT14H418A-02, MT14H418A-35, MT14H418A-38, MT14H418A-86, MT14H418A-87, and MT14H418A-90.
The product has been recalled from distributors by 3M United Kingdom PLC, and a Stop Use Notification has been issued.
