Evergreen Orchard Farm, LLC has recalled over 22,000 juice pouches after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) upgraded the recall to a Class II risk level. The recall, initially announced in July, involves three types of juice due to a lack of pasteurisation and sanitation records, which are necessary to prove the products are safe for consumption.
The recalled products include Evergreen Farm Korean Pear Juice, Grape Juice, and Jujube Juice, sold in foil pouches. Approximately 610 cases of Korean Pear Juice, 197 cases of Jujube Juice, and 78 cases of Grape Juice are affected, totalling 22,125 pouches. The juices were distributed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
The FDA classifies a Class II recall as a situation where exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects, with a remote probability of serious harm. As of September 10, no illnesses have been reported.
Evergreen Orchard Farm has advised consumers to return the products to the point of purchase. The company stated that any complaints should be directed to them. The FDA notes that unpasteurised juices can harbour harmful bacteria, potentially causing foodborne illness symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain.
