Tesco Launches £2.60 Retro Cocktail That Shoppers Are Calling a 'Throwback'
Tesco's £2.60 Retro Cocktail Is a 'Throwback' Hit

Tesco has launched a collection of affordable ready-to-drink cocktails, many of which tap into retro and nostalgic flavours. Among them is a £2.60 'throwback' flavour that shoppers are keen to try.

New Pre-Mixed Cocktails on Shelves

Cocktails are a firm favourite among drinkers, traditionally crafted from spirits blended with various ingredients including juices, tonic water, and shrubs, alongside flavoured syrups, bitters, and more. Many drinks brands now provide pre-mixed versions, offering an effortless way for fans to enjoy their favourite cocktail flavours from the comfort of their own home. A selection of canned cocktails has appeared on Tesco shelves.

Food-focused Instagram account New Food Spotter UK posted a series of images to its 160,000 followers, highlighting four options for shoppers.

WKD Cheeky V: A Nostalgic Favourite

Available flavours include WKD Cheeky V, retailing at £2.60 for a 275ml bottle. True to its name, it combines WKD Blue and 'port flavours with triple distilled vodka'. It is marketed as 'your Fave WKD Blue, with a cheeky berry twist' and 'your go-to for good vibes and refreshingly great flavour!'

The drink is likely to trigger waves of nostalgia, as WKD enjoyed enormous popularity from the late nineties through to the mid-noughties. It was famed for its sweet and fizzy taste, and countless people associate it with their early partying days, pre-drinking sessions, and nights out clubbing. Unlike the vivid blue bottles so known and loved, the berry variant has received a contemporary refresh.

Other New Drinks in the Range

It is not the only new drink to land on Tesco's shelves recently. Malibu Coconut Rum and Pineapple 'ready to drink pre-mixed' cans have also arrived, available in 250ml tins priced at £2.30. Tesco's website describes the drink as 'well-balanced and tropical, with a slight sweetness and the distinctive character of Malibu Caribbean rum'.

Also featured in New Food Spotter UK's post was Madrí Excepcional Lemon Flavoured Lager Beer, sold in a four-pack of 440ml cans for £5.50. It offers an 'ABV of 3.4% with a light gold, yellow and naturally hazy colour' and 'a fresh and zesty Limón aroma'. The Madrí product description states: 'The finish of the beer is tart with a subtle sweetness that is short and refreshing.'

Rounding off the selection was an alcohol-free option. Heineken's 0.0% Lemon Elderflower flavoured beer, made 'with natural flavourings', comes in a four-pack of 330ml cans priced at £4.

Shopper Reactions

In the comments section, New Food Spotter UK shared: 'I found them in an Extra store. You can check the Tesco app to see local store availability.' Shoppers were quick to share their opinions. One said: 'WOW Cheeky V, what a throwback!! This was my favourite drink ever when I first started going out as a teenager. I remember my local Spoons did it in a massive pitcher and I used to just stick a straw in the jug... simpler times!! I'll defo be stocking up on a few bottles of this!!' Another added: 'I need the Malibu in my life right now omg pineapple is the taste of summer.'
