Tesco Clubcard holders are being urged to check the expiration date on their vouchers before August 31, when millions of pounds' worth are set to expire. Vouchers issued in August 2025 will become worthless after 11.59pm on August 31 if not spent.
Voucher expiry and unspent balances
Clubcard vouchers are sent to shoppers every three months—in February, May, August, and November—as a reward for spending on food, clothing, fuel, and more. They are valid for two years from the date of issue, meaning any vouchers sent in August 2025 expire at the end of this month.
The number of customers holding substantial unspent vouchers is significant. In May, more than 500,000 shoppers had more than £100 in unspent Clubcard vouchers, while around 95,000 customers had £200 or more.
How to use or extend vouchers
Clubcard vouchers can be used for discounts on food at restaurant partners, savings on days out across the UK, a railcard, or hotel bookings. Shoppers not ready to spend their vouchers may have another option to extend their validity: the 50p trick. For example, spending 50p from a £5 voucher could leave £4.50 to be returned as a new voucher with a fresh two-year expiry period.
Customers can collect Clubcard points through spending on food, clothing, and fuel, or via Tesco Bank and Tesco Mobile. When using a Clubcard Credit Card at Tesco, shoppers earn 5 points for every £4 spent, or 1 point for every £8 spent elsewhere. Tesco Mobile customers also earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on pay monthly bills or top-ups. You need at least 150 points to get a Clubcard voucher, which is worth £1.50 to spend in Tesco.
Checking expiry dates
Shoppers can check the expiry date on their Clubcard vouchers by signing in to their account on the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app or at Tesco.com. Unused vouchers will be listed first, and they will detail their expiration date.
