A cleaning enthusiast has revealed a simple, natural method to eliminate shower limescale in just 10 minutes, using a common kitchen ingredient. The trick involves white vinegar, which is effective due to its acetic acid content.
The Method
To remove surface-level limescale, dampen sheets of kitchen roll with white vinegar and place them over the affected areas. Leave the vinegar-soaked tissue to rest for about 10 minutes. After removing the tissue, the limescale should disappear.
This method avoids the need for harsh chemicals, making it an eco-friendly and safe option for households.
Why Vinegar Works
Vinegar contains acetic acid, which undergoes a chemical reaction that dissolves the alkaline calcium and magnesium compounds that form limescale. It breaks up the tough mineral crust without damaging the shower's mechanism.
Additional Uses
Vinegar can also be used to descale a range of appliances, including kettles and dishwashers. According to Just Descaler, vinegar is a good method for dissolving mineral build-up and being an eco-friendly option, without being too harsh.
They wrote: “By using vinegar as a descaler, you can restore the efficiency of your appliances, like coffee makers, kettles, dishwashers, and washing machines, without resorting to harsh chemical cleaners. Not only is vinegar an eco-friendly choice, but it's also safe to use around children and pets.”
