Sainsbury's customers are being advised to input their Nectar details before placing grocery orders via Uber Eats following a substantial expansion of the loyalty programme. Shoppers can now earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent on qualifying Sainsbury's items through the Uber Eats app or website.
However, customers must input their complete Nectar card number at checkout, or they risk forfeiting points, as rewards cannot be applied retrospectively. The new collection feature is accessible through participating Sainsbury's outlets on Uber Eats, with the broader expansion encompassing more than 1,300 sites nationwide.
How the points work
This means customers utilising the rapid-delivery platform for fresh produce, household staples or emergency purchases can now accumulate rewards on their transactions. Once a Nectar card has been registered, eligible points will be added to the customer's account within 28 days.
A minimum transaction value of £1 is required. Various products are ineligible, including gift vouchers, baby milk, lottery tickets, tobacco, vapes, nicotine products, proprietary medicines, spirits and liqueurs. Further limitations apply to alcohol transactions in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Existing partnership extended
The introduction builds upon the existing partnership between Nectar and Uber, which already permits members to convert points into vouchers for Uber journeys and Uber Eats purchases. Shoppers can now accumulate Nectar points while purchasing Sainsbury's products via Uber Eats, subsequently converting their accumulated balance into Uber vouchers. To claim points, members must access the Nectar application, navigate to the "Partners" area and choose Uber.
Katie Hunter, Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, said: "We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury's orders was a no-brainer."
"Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury's essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app. It's all about delivering flexibility, convenience and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries."
Customer benefits highlighted
Mark Given, Sainsbury's chief technology, marketing and data officer, stated the enhancement would provide Nectar members with an additional avenue to derive value from the collaboration. He said: "Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats – and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury's groceries through Uber Eats too."
"It's another way we're helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they're stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier." Customers seeking to gather points must order products from a participating Sainsbury's outlet through Uber Eats and enter their Nectar card details prior to finalising the purchase.
