Sainsbury's has made a significant change to its loyalty rewards scheme, allowing Nectar card holders to collect points on grocery orders placed through Uber Eats. Shoppers using the rapid-delivery platform can now earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent on eligible Sainsbury's items.
How to earn points
To benefit, customers must enter their full Nectar card number at checkout. Points cannot be added retrospectively, so ensuring the correct number is entered is essential. Once linked, eligible points will be added to the customer's account within 28 days. The offer is available at participating Sainsbury's stores on Uber Eats, covering more than 1,300 sites across the UK.
Certain products are excluded from the promotion, including gift vouchers, baby milk, lottery tickets, tobacco, and vapes. However, for most grocery essentials, customers can accumulate rewards.
Partnership expansion
The new points collection facility extends the existing partnership between Nectar and Uber, which already enables members to convert points for vouchers covering Uber journeys and Uber Eats purchases. Customers can earn points on their Sainsbury's groceries via Uber Eats and later convert their balance for an Uber voucher. Points can be claimed by accessing the Nectar app and navigating to the 'Partners' section, then selecting Uber.
Katie Hunter, Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, said: "We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury's orders was a no-brainer. Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury's essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app. It's all about delivering flexibility, convenience and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries."
Customer benefits
Mark Given, Sainsbury's chief technology, marketing and data officer, said the rollout would provide Nectar members with an additional means of benefiting from the partnership. He said: "Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats – and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury's groceries through Uber Eats too. It's another way we're helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they're stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier."
Customers must choose their groceries from a participating Sainsbury's store via Uber Eats and enter their Nectar card number prior to finalising their order. To accumulate rewards, customers must also meet a minimum spend of £1.
