Thousands of Revolut customers were unable to use the bank's services on Tuesday morning (October 20) after the company confirmed it was experiencing a "service disruption." By 9am, more than 2,000 customers had reported issues.
Reports spike on Down Detector
Down Detector, a website that tracks outages for various apps and services, showed that problems began shortly after 7am. By 9am, the site had logged more than 2,000 reports from affected users.
According to Down Detector, 63 per cent of the issues were related to the app, 20 per cent involved difficulties with funds transfer, and eight per cent of users were unable to log in.
Revolut statement
In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, shortly before 9am, a Revolut spokesperson said: "We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services."
"We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe. We’ve been working to fix the issue since it was identified this morning and apologise to anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused."
Customer reports and global impact
Customers left comments on Down Detector when reporting the outage. One person wrote: "Absolutely nothing on the app is working today, chat is not working, support call is not working, unable to transfer money or make a payment... In the meantime revolut website says everything is fine."
Another user said: "Getting an error message in Chrome at login (SSO): 'Something went wrong, please try again later'"
The disruption also appeared to be affecting people globally, not just in the UK, with customers reporting issues on X from France and America.
