Major Recall of Over 350,000 Iron Supplements Due to Child Safety Risk

In a significant product safety announcement, more than 350,000 units of iron-containing vitamins and dietary supplements sold across the United States have been recalled. The recall was initiated after these products were distributed without mandatory child-resistant safety caps, creating a serious risk of poisoning, especially for young children.

Manufacturer and Affected Brands

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) revealed on Thursday that the recall involves multiple brands manufactured by Vitaquest International. Affected brands include Arey, Bari Life, Bird&Be, Biote, Dr. Fuhrman, NuLife, HMR, Bariatric Pal, Noevir, Zenbean, and Sakara. Many of these products were specifically marketed to vulnerable groups, such as prenatal vitamins for pregnant women and multivitamins designed for children.

Safety Violations and Risks

The absence of child-resistant packaging violates the federal Poison Prevention Packaging Act. Iron can be highly toxic if ingested in large quantities, particularly by young children. Regulators have warned that this packaging failure poses a substantial risk of serious injury or even death from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by children.
