An application has been lodged to establish a new micro bar in South Shields. South Tyneside Council's planning department is considering proposals for 66A Stanhope Road in the town's West Park ward.
The commercial premises was formerly occupied by financial services and, prior to that, operated as a dessert delivery takeaway.
Micro bar proposals and licensing
Fresh proposals are requesting approval to transform the location into a "micro bar" featuring an interior seating area and bar positioned at the front of the commercial unit, alongside toilet facilities.
A submitted planning application highlighted that certain permissions were already secured for the micro bar, including a relevant licence authorised by South Tyneside Council. The applicants stated they were now pursuing planning consent for the change of use to bring the project to fruition.
Proposed trading hours and employment
Suggested trading hours for the micro bar, outlined in the planning application, comprise 10am-10pm, Monday to Thursday and 10am-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Suggested trading hours for Sundays and bank holidays are specified as 11am-10pm. The venture, should it receive approval, is also anticipated to generate one full-time position.
South Tyneside Council confirmed a licence was issued for the premises earlier this year following a statutory procedure. The proposed micro bar holds licensing approval for the sale of alcohol, recorded music, film screenings and live music performances, with standard operating hours until 10pm Sunday to Thursday and until 11pm Friday and Saturday.
