The 4theFans fanzone at O2 City Hall in Newcastle has cancelled its planned screening of Wednesday's World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina, just hours before the match. Tickets have been pulled from sale, and the event is no longer listed on the City Hall website, which now displays a message stating 'tickets cancelled' and that the show has been cancelled with no plans to reschedule. Ticket holders are advised they will receive full refunds from their point of purchase.
No Explanation Given for Cancellation
4theFans, which operates fanzones across the country, has not provided an explanation for the cancellation. The company had promoted the City Hall event as 'Newcastle's biggest fan park', featuring a huge screen, £5 pints, live music, DJs, and appearances from England legends. Other 4theFans fanzones in Manchester and Brighton were previously reported as sold out.
Meanwhile, other Newcastle venues are hosting screenings, including STACK and Times Square, where England supporters have been celebrating the team's quarter-final victory over Norway. Organizers at these locations are urging fans to book quickly to secure spots.
Competition from Other Fan Zones
Despite the cancellation, Newcastle has several other fanzones offering live screenings of the semi-final. The city's vibrant fan scene has seen large crowds gathering for previous matches. 4theFans had also been promoting a screening for the final on July 19, with a money-back guarantee if England did not qualify, and tickets for that event remain on sale.
According to ChronicleLive, the cancellation comes as a surprise to many fans who had purchased tickets. The newspaper has set up a dedicated WhatsApp community for What's On news and updates in the North East.
