Cleaning Expert Shares Three Natural Hacks to Keep Spiders Away

A cleaning guru from Norfolk has shared three simple, natural methods to deter spiders from entering homes. Anna Louisa, who has over 3.6 million Instagram followers, posted a video detailing her tips, which has garnered more than 320,000 likes.

Her first hack involves creating a spray by mixing a cup of water with five to ten drops of peppermint or tea tree oil. This mixture should be sprayed on windows and doors, as spiders dislike the smell of these oils.

For floors, Anna recommends adding 15 to 20 drops of orange oil to a mop bucket. She notes that orange oil is less overpowering than peppermint or tea tree, making it suitable for larger surfaces. The scent deters spiders while leaving floors smelling pleasant.

The third tip is to scatter cinnamon sticks around the home, such as on a bedside table, as spiders are also repelled by the smell of cinnamon. Anna advises against using conkers if there are young children in the home, due to safety risks.

She also warns pet owners to research essential oils before use, as some can be harmful to animals. Instagram users had mixed reactions, with some calling her a 'lifesaver' and others joking that spiders might still find their way in.
