Some Nationwide members may need to get in touch with the building society by Monday, June 8, if they wish to decline a free £100 payment.
Fairer Share Payment Scheme Continues
Nationwide has confirmed it is pressing ahead with its Fairer Share Payment scheme for the fourth consecutive year. In an announcement on Thursday, May 21, the building society stated that approximately 4.4 million of its members will receive a free £100 payment next month.
Nationwide explained: "We are a building society not a bank, which means we can do things differently. Unlike our banking peers, we share some of our profits with eligible members. We will do this by making a one-off payment of £100 to those who qualify."
Notifications sent to those entitled to the cash confirmed it will arrive in accounts by June 30.
Opting Out of the Payment
However, members who wish to decline the payment have the option to opt out. On its website, Nationwide says: "You will need to let us know, no later than June 8 by calling us on 0330 123 9734, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, Saturday between 9am and 2pm, or by visiting us in branch."
Once a member has decided against receiving the 2026 payment, the decision cannot be reversed. If a member previously opted out of the Nationwide Fairer Share Payment in 2023, 2024, or 2025, they must inform Nationwide again if they wish to decline this year's payment.
