Nanit Pro Baby Monitor Review: Overhead View Without Drilling
Nanit Pro Baby Monitor: Overhead View Without Drilling

When expecting a baby, there comes a point where you feel you have ticked off the big items. The pram is selected, the hospital bag is packed, and you have convinced yourself you know what you are doing. Then you start looking for a baby monitor, and suddenly you are deep in forums, reviews, and comparison videos. Every option seems to involve a compromise: too bulky, too basic, or requiring drilling into walls.

Why the Nanit Pro Camera Stands Out

During my search for a baby monitor, I really wanted one on a stand for a bird's-eye view, avoiding drilling into walls or balancing a camera on furniture. The Nanit Pro Camera ticks all those boxes and more. It delivers crisp HD video, real-time sleep insights, cry detection, motion alerts, breathing motion tracking (with the compatible breathing band), and handy features like two-way audio and night vision for total peace of mind.

Installation and Viewing

I wanted an overhead view without permanently mounting anything or balancing a camera on furniture. That is what led me to the Nanit Pro Camera. While I have not used it in real-time yet (full review coming), the floor stand option allows for a stable, overhead view of a bedside crib or cot without any permanent fixtures, exactly what I was after.

Features and Performance

Beyond its overhead view, the Nanit Pro Camera is anything but basic. It delivers 1080p HD video with night vision and streams directly to an app, allowing parents to check in remotely. It includes motion and sound alerts, such as baby standing and cry detection, as well as two-way audio for communication without entering the room. Paired with the app, you receive sleep summaries, routine logging, sleep scoring, and next nap predictions, designed to help interpret sleep patterns and guide daytime scheduling.

A key part of the appeal is the accompanying app, which combines live monitoring with sleep tracking features. These include sleep summaries, routine logging, sleep scoring, and next nap predictions. The system also offers optional breathing motion monitoring when paired with a compatible breathing band, providing contact-free tracking intended to add an additional layer of reassurance.

Flexibility and Practicality

From a practical standpoint, the flexibility of installation options, including wall mount, floor stand, and portable setups, appears designed to accommodate different home layouts and changing needs over time. It is worth noting that Nanit Insights is an optional yearly membership plan. When you purchase the camera, it includes a six-month trial of their starter-level Sleep Plan membership, after which it renews at £100 per year. If you do not renew, the camera will still work with livestream monitoring, breathing motion monitoring, and sound and motion alerts, but you will not have access to advanced features and deeper insights.

Beyond monitoring, the platform allows shared access for parents and includes tools to track feeds, sleep, and general routines, positioning it as more of an integrated nursery system rather than a standalone camera.

Availability and Final Thoughts

While readily available in the US market, the Nanit is yet to release its standalone monitor in the UK, meaning you currently have to use your phone to check in on baby snoozing. I am hoping this becomes available on this side of the pond soon, as it is something I would definitely purchase.
