A 19-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being shot in the head and neck during a drive-by shooting outside Fitzy's pub in Loganholme, Queensland, on Saturday night. Three other people are in a serious condition after the attack, which occurred while the venue was hosting a boxing event.
New video circulating online shows revellers running for cover and hiding under a boxing ring as gunfire erupted. Shots were fired from a passing vehicle at a group of people standing outside the venue.
Police detail the shooting
Detective Inspector Ian Galpin told media on Sunday that the four victims were standing in a passenger drop-off zone outside the event when a Mitsubishi approached. He said: "A number of shots were then fired from the front passenger window of that vehicle, striking four persons." The vehicle then fled the scene, and a manhunt is now underway to find those responsible.
Four people were taken to hospital, including the 19-year-old woman from Jimboomba, who remains in a critical condition and has undergone surgery.
Witness describes the scene
Stephen March, who was judging the boxing event at Fitzy's on Saturday night, told 7: "When I got near the door, about five feet away, that's when I heard the gunshots. If I had have been another 10 seconds earlier, I would have been outside standing around somewhere. It didn't register that it was gunshots."
He added: "I walked outside and saw a person lying on the walkway, I noticed there was a fair bit of blood. There was a couple of people around trying to help them. I feel sorry for the people who got shot … it was a family night out."
Victims and political response
A 38-year-old man from Browns Plains has also undergone surgery after being shot in the stomach and arm. He is in a serious but stable condition. Another man, 37, was shot in the abdomen and is in a serious but stable condition after surgery. A 27-year-old Cornubia man has also undergone surgery and is in a serious but stable condition.
Premier David Crisafulli said he has been briefed on the "horrendous crime" mass shooting outside Fitzy's Loganholme, which occurred about 8.15pm. He said: "It's my hope that these people responsible for it are arrested and that those new (drive-by shooting) laws apply to them, because this isn't the Queensland we want to see."
Member for Maranoa David Littleproud called the alleged offenders "animals" and told them to "get off the streets".
