Money-saving expert Martin Lewis has calculated the cost of running Christmas tree lights, revealing that the type of bulb makes a significant difference to electricity bills.
On his ITV show, Lewis explained that LED bulbs cost just 1p for every 12 hours per 100 bulbs. In contrast, incandescent lights cost 13p for the same duration.
For a typical six hours of daily use over a month, LED lights would total 15p, while incandescent bulbs would cost £1.94.
Lewis also offered advice on festive food savings, suggesting shoppers look for discounts around 12 December. He noted that supermarkets often reduce prices on Christmas staples closer to the big day.
Last year, Aldi cut turkey prices from £4.19 to £3.99 six days before Christmas, while Tesco's fresh turkeys were 19p cheaper than Aldi or Lidl. Potatoes and other vegetables were also heavily discounted.
