Katherine McPhillips, a self-described budget-conscious shopper, has switched her bakery purchases from Lidl to Marks & Spencer after discovering that M&S cookies stay fresh significantly longer.
Cookie Disappointment at Lidl
McPhillips, who previously favored Lidl for its in-store bakery and affordable treats under £1, bought a selection of Lidl cookies for a picnic dessert this summer. However, the cookies lost their freshness quickly, becoming too hard to bite into and ending up in the bin.
At just 55p each, the total loss was £2.75, but the incident highlighted a recurring issue: other bakery items from Lidl also seemed to lack longevity. McPhillips began avoiding Lidl bread and baked goods when she needed them to last more than a couple of days.
M&S Cookies Win Her Over
After a friend sent her a video about M&S cookies, which have gained online buzz following a new flavour release, she decided to try them despite M&S's reputation for being pricey. She bought a pack of five cookies for £3.10, just 35p more than the Lidl cookies.
McPhillips was immediately impressed by the cookies' rich, buttery taste and enormous size—each roughly the size of her hand. But the real game-changer came days later: after forgetting one cookie in her kitchen cupboard, she found it still perfectly edible after five days.
Better Value for Money
McPhillips concluded that the M&S cookies offered far greater value for money due to their superior taste, generous size, and long-lasting freshness. She now purchases all her baked goods exclusively from Marks & Spencer.
