Lidl brings back Bakery Spin for free pastries with 1p spend

Lidl has revived its popular Bakery Spin game for loyalty scheme members, offering free pastries to shoppers who spend as little as 1p. The promotion, available now for Lidl Plus members, provides a digital coupon for a complimentary patisserie each time the app is scanned at the till.

How the Bakery Spin works

Running until August 19, the game gives members two weeks of daily freebies. To qualify, shoppers need to purchase just one item with a minimum value of 1p. When the app is scanned at the checkout, a digital spin board appears on the Lidl Plus home screen. Members can then spin the wheel to randomly receive one of 10 digital coupons.

Sweet options include an Apple turnover, pretzel, maple & pecan plait, almond croissant, plain croissant, chocolate doughnut, or cronut. Savoury choices feature the large baguette or pizza slice. The promotion allows multiple participations, but shoppers must wait at least one day between purchases to receive a coupon daily.

Claiming the free item

Once the game is played, the digital coupon appears in the 'Coupons For You' section of the app and expires after seven days. It cannot be transferred or exchanged. When valid, no additional purchase is required; customers can pick up the selected item, scan the app, and leave without paying extra.

The offer is exclusive to Lidl Plus members. The loyalty scheme, launched in the UK in 2020, lets members earn points with every purchase, with each £1 spent representing one point. Points can be converted into rewards or money-off coupons through the 'Rewards Marketplace'. Other benefits include personalised offers, exclusive deals, and access to Lidl's leaflet.

Bakery's cult following

The bakery section has gained a cult following, and in 2025 it was named "the UK's number one bakery", beating out competitors. The all-butter croissant is particularly popular, previously selling "122 times every minute".
