A new version of the Hotel Chocolat velvetiser has been launched, offering both hot and cold drinking chocolate. The original model, released in 2018, could only produce hot drinks, but the updated machine can whip up chilled, velvety drinks in under two minutes.
The velvetiser 2.0, priced at £150, features a new whisk designed for a vortex effect, creating a frothy creama on both hot and cold chocolate. The machine is notably quiet during operation and has a fluted design inspired by a cacao pod, available in white, taupe, and silver colourways.
The tester assembled a group of chocolate lovers to try seven different flavours. The setup was straightforward: the machine is pre-assembled, simply requires plugging in, and a quick wash before first use. A dial lights up blue for cold and red for hot. However, the machine is not dishwasher safe, which was noted as a minor inconvenience.
The standout feature is the texture of the drinks, described as thick and smooth, impossible to replicate with a microwave or hob. The machine also comes with one podcup, one podglass, and a selection box of drinking chocolates.
