Halifax has confirmed that it will invite customers to move to the Lloyds app and online banking in stages over the coming months, as part of a brand change within the Lloyds Banking Group. The announcement came in response to a customer query on social media about the speed of the Halifax app.
Customer Query Prompts Clarification
The issue was raised after a customer asked on social media: "When is the Halifax banking being transferred to Lloyds? I hope the app improves, as it's the slowest to open I've experienced… Halifax, Lloyds and BOS, all chronically slow." Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland are all part of the Lloyds Banking Group.
In response, Halifax stated: "This is a brand change only, so there's no change to your day-to-day banking relationship. Halifax's customers will be invited to move to the Lloyds app and Online Banking in stages over the coming months. There's no action needed until you receive your invitation. Your account details, payments, and banking services will remain the same."
Guidance on the Transition
Guidance on the Halifax website explains: "Over the next few months, we'll be in touch to move you to the Lloyds app and online banking as we'll be closing these for Halifax. They work in a similar way so should feel familiar and just as easy to use. We'll send you an invitation in the app and online banking, so you’ll know it’s from us. It'll guide you through the process in just a few easy steps, with no passwords or memorable details to set up. We'll also email you around the time the invite will appear, so you don’t miss it."
Branch Closures Continue
In a separate query, a customer expressed frustration after Halifax closed their local branch in Liverpool. Halifax has already closed several branches in 2026, with more closures planned. The bank responded: "Branch decisions are based on a range of factors, including how customers are choosing to bank and the availability of nearby services. You can find information about branch closures and alternative banking options here."
