Dyson has launched the Supersonic Nural, an upgraded version of its iconic hair dryer, eight years after the original Supersonic took the market by storm. Priced at £400, the Nural introduces new features aimed at protecting the scalp and enhancing user experience.
The standout feature is the scalp-protect mode, which uses sensors to adjust the air temperature based on the dryer's proximity to the scalp. As it gets closer, the temperature lowers to prevent burns and damage to delicate hair strands. Dyson claims this strengthens the scalp barrier and balances oils, reducing flakes and shedding.
Another addition is pause detect, which automatically slows the dryer when placed on a surface, useful for sectioning hair or handling a round brush. The Nural retains the Dyson Digital Motor V9, spinning at 110,000 RPM, and offers three speed levels, three heat settings, and a continuous cool shot. It includes five magnetic attachments with RFID tags that automatically set ideal heat and speed, with the option to save custom settings.
The Nural has a 2.62m cord and weighs slightly more than the Supersonic R model but remains lightweight. It was tested against 19 other hair dryers, with results showing effective drying and heat control. However, the high price means it is not a universal recommendation without caveats.
