The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed 25 skin conditions that could qualify claimants for up to £114 weekly Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Latest DWP data shows 27,391 people are claiming PIP for various skin conditions, out of more than four million people claiming PIP as of April 2026.
What is PIP?
PIP is a disability benefit that helps with extra costs caused by long-term disability or ill-health. It supports those who need help with daily living tasks and maintaining independence at home.
The benefit is divided into two components. The daily living component provides £76.55 per week at the standard rate or £114.80 at the enhanced rate. The mobility component offers £30.20 at the base rate or £80.10 at the increased level. Eligible claimants can receive up to £187 weekly, totalling £748 per month.
PIP is not means-tested and does not depend on National Insurance contributions, meaning those in work or with savings can still qualify.
