Consumer watchdog Which? has shared a simple hack using a dehumidifier that can cut laundry drying time by nearly half while preventing damp and mould. The method involves placing a dehumidifier underneath or next to an indoor clothes airer.
Which? tested the technique by drying two identical loads of washing in the same room, one with a dehumidifier and one without. The result showed that using a dehumidifier reduced drying time by almost 50%. The appliance also extracted around two litres of water from the air, helping to prevent condensation and mould growth.
Experts warn that drying laundry indoors, particularly in bedrooms, can lead to mould, dampness, and respiratory issues. Using a dehumidifier not only speeds up drying but also protects your home from these problems. The hack is especially useful during winter when outdoor drying is not feasible.
Which? UK shared the tip in a TikTok video, stating: "This dehumidifier hack will help you dry your clothes almost twice as fast—and it'll help protect your home from damp and mould too!"
